This year marks the 300th anniversary of the birth of Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown, a designer who changed the national landscape and created a style which has shaped people’s picture of the quintessential English countryside. As the first ever celebration of Brown’s extensive works, the Capability Brown Festival 2016 brings together a huge range of events, openings and exhibitions. To mark the 300th anniversary of ‘Capability’ Brown and in celebration of England’s many fabulous gardens, landscapes and events, VisitEngland is promoting ‘Year of the English Garden’ for 2016. Gardens are one of England’s greatest attractions for overseas and domestic visitors. Internationally, more than half of holiday visits include a trip to a park or garden, second only to shopping as an activity. Research shows that one in five English residents (18%) visited a garden on their last break in England. We are lucky to have some incredible gardens nearby including Blenheim Palace, For some other great local garden click here. The National Garden Scheme donates millions to charity as well as enabling you to get out and see beautiful floral arrangements up and down the country.
